Interim Principal Researcher – Quantum Technology
Are you an expert in quantum technology with a passion to apply it to the energy transition? As an interim Principal Researcher, you will lead the quantum program within the Research Center for Digital Technologies (RCDT). You will initiate and coordinate research into quantum sensing, quantum computing, and quantum communication, translating complex challenges into groundbreaking technological solutions for the energy transition. This is a hybrid role based in Arnhem for 32 hours per week. You will make the network more innovative at Alliander.
Your Role as Principal Researcher Quantum
You will work substantively on quantum computing and quantum sensing projects, investigating where these technologies can contribute to better solutions within Alliander. You will be responsible for developing vision and strategy in the field of quantum technology for network operators. You will collaborate with universities, startups, and labs, and develop valuable use cases into prototypes. You will maintain a broad network, identify technological opportunities, and present research results on (inter)national stages.
Key Responsibilities
Building a research roadmap for the quantum program, providing direction to strategic and substantive development.
Substantively managing R&D specialist(s) within the quantum program.
Contributing substantively to quantum computing and quantum sensing projects.
Building technical knowledge on quantum technology and disseminating it within and outside the Research Center for Digital Technologies.
Identifying complex issues within the organization and translating them into technological opportunities from the outside world.
Maintaining contacts within the organization, to be able to test the value of the technology in the context of the organization.
Carefully documenting research results, and publishing and presenting them at (international) conferences.
Further professionalizing the technology, the code, way of working, and the soft skills of the team.

You have a passion for technology and R&D, and at the same time, you keep a close eye on the challenges and interests of Alliander. You can make the broad translation from challenge to solution and are also able to make this practical and applicable in practice. You are not afraid to get started quickly and put something tangible down in a short period. You are also good at briefly and concretely recording findings in a report or presentation and then convincing the stakeholders with it.
