Flexible working and the possibility to work partly from home. That is what you can expect as a Senior Python Developer at Stedin! In this role, you combine technically challenging work with social impact and you play an active role in coaching, guiding and developing the other developers within the team.
The energy transition demands a lot from our electricity grid. As a Senior Python Developer at Stedin, you work on the further development of the Flex Toolkit. This innovative tool helps to optimally use grid capacity by calculating accurate capacity calculations and flexible contract forms. This increases insight, improves decision-making and prevents congestion.
You work together with different teams, collect user feedback through workshops and contribute to an Agile working environment. You also ensure the integration of Flex Tookit with systems such as PowerFactory, Setiam and SAP, to guarantee seamless operation.
How does your day as a Senior Python Developer at Stedin look like?
After a delicious cup of coffee (or tea) that you order in sign language from our hearing-impaired ‘barista’, you start the day with the daily standup. Together with your colleagues, you discuss the priorities and obstacles, after which everyone gets to work.
At the start of each sprint, you review the goals for the coming two weeks with the DevOps team and the Product Owner. You support your team and vice versa, in order to maximize the product value. One day you plan or refine, the next day you are focusing on agreed tasks. During the planning, you test whether the work is realistic or needs to be revised.
At the end of the morning you complete a number of introductory meetings. The information in these meetings is crucial for you need to understand the business context of the application and to further develop your knowledge. After these meetings you coordinate integrations and user stories in short online meetings with other DevOps teams. Finally, you work with a colleague on a low-level design for a congestion solution.
Time for lunch! You can have lunch on the 18th floor with a magnificent view of Rotterdam, with your own lunch or something fresh from the company restaurant. Or you can take a walk in the city. Time to get back to work. In the afternoon there is a refinement on the agenda: here we determine the steps for the delivery of user stories for the coming quarter every week.
You round off the day by coordinating with the Epic Owner what the next step is in product development. You also check the ticket system to see if you can pick up a few management requests. And at the end of your workday you are in a few steps at Blaak station, so you are back home quickly!
Your strengths.
You are an enthusiastic and inspiring colleague who enjoys working on new product development within a constantly changing and technically challenging playing field. With your coaching and motivational approach, you stimulate the growth of your fellow developers, help them to use their potential and actively contribute to a learning-oriented and supportive working environment.
You are a person who looks beyond the daily tasks, takes initiative and know how to identify opportunities and translate them into valuable products and further developments that contribute to the business goals. Thanks to your strong communication skills, you work effectively within the team and create a culture of continuous improvement: for yourself, your colleagues and the customer.
What else makes you our Senior Python Developer?
You have a higher professional education (Hbo) level of working and thinking, preferably with a degree in computer science;
You have at least 5 years of work experience: strong proficiency in Python, especially in GUI and tool development. Demonstrable practical experience with SQL, Git, Azure cloud, Databricks, and CI/CD pipeline.
Experience with JavaScript, React, Vue.js, and/or Angular is a plus.
Strong data analysis skills with the ability to turn complex data into actionable insights;
Knowledge and experience with Agile working is a plus.
We are open for candidates who are not speaking fluently Dutch but are willing to learn. An important condition is that you are willing to travel at least 50% of your time to the office in Rotterdam.
Een goed team. Daar hoor je bij.
From day one, you will be part of the Agile Release Train (ART) Forecasting & Capacity Management. The team currently consists of a Product Owner, a Scrum Master, a Business Analyst, and 3 Developers. The team has a lot of freedom in its approach within the architectural frameworks. You will work closely with other teams and systems needed for the entire maintenance process.
What binds us? The drive to puzzle and come up with the best solutions together. To promote transparency and collaboration, we at Stedin work with a ‘Big Room Planning’. This is a two-day meeting based on (Agile) SAFe that takes place every quarter. Colleagues from IT and the business come together during these two full and enjoyable days to determine what will be developed in the coming quarter.
